The Withnall Connection - Mary Withnall.
The strange thing is that I did not nearly make a connection to the Withnall's.
It all started with the marriage of a William Groucott to a Mary Dutton.
I spent a number years investigating the Dutton's at Baswich, but I never found my Mary Dutton, in desperation I went back to the marriage, and saw that I had overlooked the fact that Mary Dutton was a widow when marrying William Groucott. The hunt for Mary's first marriage was over in flash, and as we now know they she was Mary Withnall, when she married James Dutton.
That's how I got started onto the Withnalls.
Both the Groucott and Withnall families can be found at Baswich.
The Withnall's are a lot more ancient and more widely distributed than the Groucotts, at Baswich. In fact checking the parish registars at adjacent churchs, Withnall's can be seen in them as well.
See the Groucott pages for how the Groucotts came to Baswich.
The Withnall tree is extensive, mainly based at Baswich but jumps to Tazmania, Australia and Scotland.
Let put some detail on everyone
Kenneth Albert Reynolds (1928 - )
Evelyn Mary Groucott (17-Feb-1906 - 11-Oct-1984)
Thomas Groucott (1877 - 1942)
William Groucott (1840 - 04-Mar-1898)
William Groucott (1818 - )
Who married Mary Dutton Nee Withnall
That's where the link to Withnalls is made, with Mary.
If we go back further
Joseph Withnall (1778 - 1844)
William Withnall (1750 - )
William Withnall (1726 - 1779)
Thomas Withnall (1683 - )
Edward Withnall (1649 - 1727)
Edward Withnall (1614 - 1697)
John Withnall (1580 - 1622)
It gets problematic after that because of the similar christian names being used, and records in adjacent parishes being virtually unreadable.
