Title - A Glory, Glory day revisited

"If fantasy football becomes a reality tomorrow and Walsall knock Mancester United out of the F.A. cup, two of the visiting supporters will leave Old Trafford saying they have seen it all before.

Lifelong Saddlers fans Kitty Lyons, 86 and Fred Lloyd, 88, wiil think back to a cold afternoon in January 1922 when there team scored a famous 2-0 win against mighty Arsenal. Both were in the crowd st Fellows Park to see a game which stunned the football world andd became apart of Walsall folklore...... One fan who will not be put off by the ticket price will be Kitty Lyons. She took up her customary place on the terraces to urge the side on to a legendary win. "It was an outstanding game because Arsenal were the Mancester United of the day. They were the best side in the country and we beat them" she says. " I can remember the Headlines after the game - they said 'The Day the Gunners Were Shot Down'. It was a great day." The great Grandmother has clocked up 70 years supporting the Saddlers home and away, taking in games the likes of Liverpool and Newcastle. Kitty still prefers to stand on the terraces but will make an exception for tomorrows game at all-seater stadium. In 1975 Walsall travelled up to the famous ground for a third round FA Cup tie. A brave performance saw them grind out a goalless draw and naturally Kitty was an eager onlooker. "I don't remember much about the ground itself amd I am sure it has altered quite a bit since then, so I am looking forward to seeing it again" she says. " I think we will score and I think young Dean Keates and Jeff Peron will frighthen them" Article includes a black and white picture.
